At AKMIS, we believe that the university search and selection process should be student-led. While our Counseling Department provides comprehensive support, including individualized counseling and educational events, it is the student who ultimately drives the process. This approach helps to ensure that each student’s unique needs and interests are fully represented in the university selection process.
The AKMIS educational philosophy centers on the idea that the university search and selection process is not just a checklist of tasks to complete, but an important educational process. Students have spent years building up to this point, and it represents a major transition from high school to college or university.
To support students in this journey, AKMIS emphasizes the “whole student” throughout the process. This means that we are not just focused on a student’s academic record, but on their unique strengths, weaknesses, and extracurricular interests. By taking a holistic approach to student development, we aim to help each student find the right fit for them, both academically and personally.
AKMIS recognizes that the university search and selection process can be daunting for students and their families. That is why our Counseling Department provides a comprehensive program to support students’ personal growth and development as they progress through their Upper School years. The program includes one-on-one counseling with a 1:15 counselor/student ratio, as well as educational events and workshops to help students and families navigate the university search and selection process.
At AKMIS, we believe that finding the right fit for each student is not a matter of finding the “one right school.” Rather, there are likely many good fits out there for every student. That is why we encourage students to acknowledge and accept what makes them unique, what they need inside and outside the classroom, and what resources are available to help them select the right college or university. Our goal is to prepare our students for real-world success, as confident and responsible learners who are well-prepared for the next stage of their academic and personal lives.
