The Journey of AKMIS

Abdul Kadir Molla International School

Abdul Kadir Molla International School, in short AKMIS; is not only the name of an institution, it is a great sign of philanthropic approach of the Founder Chairman & Managing Director of Thermax Group Limited- Mr. Abdul Kadir Molla. It is not only a story of a successful businessman, it is a story of a common man who failed to complete his education on time because of the financial crisis and is now working on building modern enlightened society with the light of education.

Abdul Kadir Molla was born on 08 August 1961 at Panchkandi village at Monohordi in Narsingdi. He is the elder son of late Abdul Mazid Molla and Mrs Noorjahan Begum. Abdul Mazid Molla was a day laborer who used to work as a farm worker. Abdul Mazid Molla died in 1974 when Abdul Kadir Molla was a student of class eight. It left the family in the vast ocean of poverty without any earning members. Noorjahan Begum started working as household maid and Kadir Molla stopped going to school to look after two younger brothers and only little sister.

However, the headmaster of the school once called Kadir Molla back to school and provided a lodging in a family on the condition that he would teach the younger children of the family. He arranged some private tuitions for Abdul Kadir Molla to meet the expenses of educational materials and other living expenses.

Abdul Kadir Molla lost his father Abdul Mazid Molla untreated. Due to extreme poverty, his father did not get any medical attention and died at an early age. The family shattered under pressure of extreme poverty after his father’s death. Noorjahan Begum and children were detached from each other. Abdul Kadir Molla lost his little sister as untreated and unattended. Abdul Kadir Molla worked as farming labor and construction worker at a very early age to earn his livelihood.

With the help of teachers, Abdul Kadir Molla could manage to pass his SSC in 1977 with a lot of hardship after his father’s death. However, he could not sit for HSC examinations as he could not manage to pay for tk.160/- only as the exam registration fees for that examination. He passed HSC IN 1988 after 10 years of finishing his Secondary School Certificate examinations.

The mission of building modern enlightened society with the light of education actually started from that time. He says that the objective of business is not only achieving capital but also upholding the work of human welfare. We have certain responsibilities as a human being. If I can do something beneficial for human being, it will have multidimensional ramifications, and through this I can satisfy my creator, I have myself in tranquility and people get benefits.

To work for human welfare, Abdul Kadir Molla has established Mazid Molla Foundation (MMF) after the name of his father late Abdul Mazid Molla to organize his charity works. Mazid Molla Foundation finances directly PanchKandi Degree College at Monohordi, Abdul Kadir Molla City College at Velanagar, Narsingdi, NKM High School and Homes, Narsingdi, Abdul Kadir Molla International School, Baghdi, Narsingdi. The foundation also finances to build mosques, school buildings, students’ residences, college buildings, madrasas complex, academic and administrative buildings of universities etc.
